Charlemagne College Eijkhagen is a secondary educational school located in Landgraaf. We offer education on the following levels: theoretical vocational education, higher general secondary education, and preparatory academic education. Additionally, we provide bilingual preparatory academic education since 1999 and have been fully certified since 2008. Since then, we are allowed to carry the title of Senior Bilingual School. Eijkhagen employs approximately a hundred teachers and a supporting staff of thirty people. We currently house 1463 students.
The motto of our school is: ‘’Create your future’’. We allow our students to achieve their dreams by offering quality certified programmes in a dynamic environment. This includes participation in foreign exchange programmes at all levels. A key feature of our program is the increase of cultural awareness and identity on a regional, European and global level. Through contact with foreign partner schools, our students are brought in contact with different cultures, opinions and types of education. This provides them with a better understanding of their foreign peers and the role of their own culture. Our program prepares our students and teachers for their role in an international expanding world and besides that, it broadens their horizon.
The Netherlands was the first homeland of Charles V. He was born in Gante (1500 year). There, he was educated by some of the most illustrious minds: Adrian of Utrecht, Margaret of Austria, Jean of Sauvage and, indirectly, by Erasmus of Rotterdam who dedicated Institutio Principis Christiani (1516) to him. This is our motivation for our school participating in the project to widen our students´ knowledge of the historical and cultural heritage, to realise the relationship and influence on other EU areas and the impact on Europe.
